Crepuscular Rays

Crepuscular rays are dramatic beams of light and shadow which seem to radiate from the sun through the intervening clouds. These cloud shadows are actually parallel rays -- perspective makes them seem to converge on the sun. They are usually formed by distant clouds -- sometimes even clouds that are hidden beyond the horizon. In this photo the rays are formed by a close rocky ridge, and projected on swirling morning fog.
