Ordinarily the sight of a beautiful sunset like this would be a delightful treat. But for amateur astronomers, such solid cloud cover can mean that their long drive away from city lights has been made in vain.
This sunset occurred at the beginning of a star party by the Saguaro Astronomy Club. The sky stayed mostly overcast after dark, and many of the other stargazers packed up their telescopes and headed back to the city. But I stayed and enjoyed a night of conversation, camping in the desert ... and saguaro photography!
