World's Crookedest Street

Lombard Street may not actually be the steepest or most curvy street in San Francisco, but it is certainly the most famous. There's usually a line of cars waiting to take the white-knuckle drive down this almost-vertical block. Make sure your brakes and power steering are in good shape -- and your insurance is paid up -- before attempting it! If you believe an old Bill Cosby routine, the flowerbeds are where they've buried the people who've killed themselves trying to drive down the street!

Directions: Lombard Street, between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets.
