On my visit to Grand Canyon Caverns, several things convinced me that I had entered the realm of the tacky tourist trap. For one, the caverns themselves are not especially beautiful or interesting. Next, they are not really at the Grand Canyon. And why the hokey dinosaurs out front? Apparently, before 1962 this attraction was known as "Dinosaur Caverns" -- another truth-stretching name designed to catch the tourists' attention. The photograph above was taken in November 1986; below is the same scene photographed on my July 2008 visit.
