Sunnyslope Rock Garden

Phoenix, Arizona

While I was putting together this web page, it struck me that building a web site and building a rock garden share a certain kind of long-term obsession. As a photographer, almost every day something catches my eye, and I add another image to my collection. Over the years, the vast, original and unplanned thing known asJoe Orman's Photo Pages has been created. Looking back, I can only guess at the cumulative amount of effort I've invested, and can only hope that others find joy and beauty in the result. In the same way, Grover Cleveland Thompson spent 22 years adding concrete arches and statues in his front yard, and decorating them with "found" items -- pieces of rock, broken glass and ceramic. Thompson died in 1976, but his work is not forgotten. The house's current owner has preserved the folk art collection, and has made it accessible to the public as the Grover Cleveland Thompson Museum. Behold, and gaze in wonder upon his labors.
