This brass pyramid, on the grounds of Tovrea Castle, is a memorial to four members of the Tovrea family: Edward Ambrose Tovrea (1861-1932), his son Philip Edward Tovrea (1894-1962), and his sons Philip Edward Tovrea Jr. and Edward Arthur Tovrea. The family brand, the Circle Walking L, is also included on each side of the pyramid. Edward Ambrose Tovrea had wanted to be buried under this pyramid, just as his friend Governor Hunt was buried under a pyramid in nearby Papago Park, but county regulations would not allow it so Tovrea is buried elsewhere. Below is a photo showing the pyramid and the castle.
Directions: West side of the Loop 202 freeway, between Van Buren Street and Washington Street. Grounds open to public only on guided tours, but pyramid and castle are visible from the street; the photos above were taken with a telephoto lens over the wall of the property.
