Frank Lloyd Wright Spire

Scottsdale, Arizona

This colorful spire towers over a busy intersection in North Scottsdale; it is even more conspicuous when illuminated at night, as shown below.

A plaque at the base of the spire explains its origins:

This Frank Lloyd Wright designed spire was originally part of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Arizona State Capitol Project from 1957. The spire is 125 feet in height and was formally illuminated on 28 April 2004

Below is a conceptual drawing of Wright's rejected design for the Arizona State Capitol, still on display in his office at Taliesin West. Note how the spire was to be integrated into the pyramidal capitol building.
