Jerome clings to a hillside high above the Verde Valley, just as it clings to life -- mining has given way to tourism, and on every visit I have found the town bustling. Dozens of historic old buildings await those who stroll the steep streets of Jerome.
The town of Jerome is 5 miles west of Cottonwood, Arizona, all on paved roads. Most of the buildings are still occupied; please respect the privacy of the residents. Jerome State Historic Park is adjacent to the town; a small entrance fee is charged. This photo of mining machinery was taken on the grounds of the State Historic Park; the town of Jerome can be seen in the background.
