Lonely Adobe

[ghosts_07.jpg]

I came upon this dramatic ruin unexpectedly on a back road near Painted Rock, Arizona. Forlorn by the side of the road, the little building with the collapsed roof was surrounded by nothing except a fallen-down barb-wire fence and open fields. I couldn't shake the feeling that it was too perfectly rustic to be real; it was so photogenic it seemed as if the hand of a decorator had composed the adobe walls and roof beams just so. Probably just a fantasy on my part, but it wouldn't be the first time that I had seen ghost town "ruins" that had actually been constructed as movie sets.
