Not really a ghost town, Gallinas is a small, quiet community in the eastern foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico. In May 1983, on my way to on El Porvenir Campground and Hermit's Peak, I stopped in Gallinas to photograph the church. 16 years later, in October 1999, I stood in the exact same spot and took another picture. The years gone by and the different season brought many changes to the scene; especially dramatic is the difference in the foliage.
Gallinas is located on paved Highway 65, 10 miles northwest of Las Vegas, New Mexico.
