The Valley Of Fire is only 50 miles from of Las Vegas, but it is another world entirely. Far from the cacophony of casinos and slot machines, one finds a place of silent cliffs, deserted canyons, and wide-open skies. The area's name comes from the predominant pink-orange sandstone, which glows like embers in the last sunlight of the day. These formations are known as "The Beehives," having been eroded into that shape by the work of wind and water over the eons.
