At the end of its June 2007 mission to the International Space Station, the space shuttle Atlantis detached from the station and for the next couple of days preceded the station by a few seconds in orbit around the earth. On this evening the pair was visible from Phoenix, Arizona, looking like two bright stars crossing the sky from west to east (making streaks from left to right in this 20-second exposure; Atlantis entered the Earth's shadow before the end of the exposure).
