Lunar Landscape

[planets_030821_21.jpg]

This photograph shows the southern portion of a thick crescent moon, just past last quarter (I took this photo through a Newtonian telescope, which inverts the image). Along the dividing line between sunlight and shadow, which is called the terminator, crater rims stand out in dramatic relief; the largest crater along the terminator in the bottom center of this photo is Clavius. The large flat-floored crater in full sunlight at upper right is Schickard.
