October 10, 2005

As the planet Mars approached opposition in the fall of 2005, it shone brightly in the east after sunset. On this evening, Mars appeared a few degrees to the right of the Pleiades star cluster. Just above the rooftops are the Hyades star cluster and the bright star Aldebaran. The arrangement was photographed looking inland from San Elijo State Beach, north of San Diego, California.
