Saturn V Self-Portrait

This is me at the business end of the Saturn V rocket at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This photo was taken with a wide-angle lens -- these babies are BIG! Each of these 12-foot diameter engines developed 1.5 million pounds of thrust, and used 3 tons of propellant per second. After ignition, the Saturn V actually remained motionless on the launch pad for a few seconds, being too heavy to lift until the engines had burned off some of the fuel.
