As Independence Day turns to night, I camp in the desert outside of Independence, California. Beyond the town rises the sheer eastern face of the Sierra Nevada, illuminated by a full moon. During the 3 hours the shutter is open, Jupiter sets over the mountains, cars travel the highways, and fireworks explode in celebration over the town.
