Desert Tortoise, Joshua Tree National Monument

[wildlife_tortoise1.jpg]

March 1992

I found this ancient wanderer crossing one of Joshua Tree's remote jeep roads. With my telephoto lens arrangement, I was able to get this close-up while keeping a respectful distance.

Desert Tortoises are protected by law. They should never be bothered or picked up -- a tortoise that is startled into emptying its bladder may die of dehydration. Please respect these fellow desert travelers!.

Camera: Canon AE-1, 200mm lens with 3X tele-extender and extension tube on tripod.
Film: Kodachrome 64 slide.
Scanned using a Nikon Coolscan LS-2000 35mm film scanner.
